Musing is the first printed work from the Caviness’ youngest daughter, Kelsie Rose. It is a collection of poetry from the heart of a Christian teenage girl God has gifted with insight and a way of saying things that communicates with the soul.
Her poetry deals with subjects like loss, patriotism, forgiveness, humor, and the outdoors. Some are first person accounts of empathy as though she was the person she observes. Others are from her own experiences growing up ministering to others, dealing with life, and enjoying God’s blessings.

Excerpts from the book:

• I remember the mud fight in the front yard with my brother, the first time I lost a tooth, my first crush, the way I cried when my best friend moved away. I remember ice cream with Dad and cooking lessons with Mom, my favorite climbing tree, the loss of my first pet, the first night I didn’t call for Dad after a nightmare-so many days, so many emotions, so many memories. Memories are the building blocks of our personalities. Remembering where we’ve been is a big part of knowing where we’re headed. They are the weathering that has etched our souls and character into the uniqueness of our person.

Hurting Souls

Little girl so small and helpless,

Left alone to find her way,

Never knowing someone loves her,

Standing tall to face each day,

Mom is drunk and Dad has left them,

She doubts if he ever cared,

Yet to her this life is normal,

She’s just used to living scared.

Autumn Wind

Crazy wind, it blows around me,

Laughing, snatching at my hair,

Imbuing me with wild feelings,

As it howls without a care,

Dying down it’s now a finger,

Trailing softly on my skin,

Whispering secrets, humming softly,

Of the places it has been.

There is a Purpose

When my day seems dark and dreary,

And no hope is left in sight,

When I feel that life’s not worth it,

I can’t see a ray of light,

...

What e’er may come I’ll pray to God,

And ask him for the power,

To realize that His greatest work,

Was in my darkest hour.

Musing

We are all sitting here, my family,

in a happy circle,

each person mesmerized with his own task

Yet enjoying the closeness

of filling the room with our unique spirits.

So different, yet so compatible,

We are an inseparable force.
